Saints, Lady Saints sweep Hutchinson

The Seward County men’s tennis team is currently ranked eighth in the NJCAA.
The Saints struggled a little bit at the beginning of the season, but after a sweep of Hutchison Community College the Saints have an overall record of 32-26. With a singles record of 23-18 and a doubles record of 9-8.
“The season has had its ups and downs,” Charlie Salter said. “We haven’t had the luck with the weather for us to get all the practice we need.”
The leading Saints singles winners are Charlie Salter and Roberto Gomez with a record of 4-2. The leading doubles team is Victor Mesquita and Mirko Perkusich with a record of 4-2.
“I’m having my best semester yet. I have been training twice a day trying to get in excellent shape,” Charlie Salter said. “I’m just working hard for the team.”
The Lady Saints tennis team is currently ranked 17th in the NJCAA.
The Lady Saints have started a little slow like the men. They have came on strong lately, winning three straight duals. They have an overall record of 30-22, a singles record of 22-13, and the doubles record stands at 8-9.
“The season has gone great. The team is close,” Alyssa Larson said. “All the girls have a good, positive attitude on and off the court.”
The leading Lady Saints singles game winners so far this season are Erica Herrera and Alyssa Larson with records of 5-1.
The leading doubles game winners are Valerie Stevens and Alyssa Larson, and Sanela Dejanovic and Erica Herrera both having a records of 3-3.
“I feel I’m doing really good. I feel confident,” Alyssa Larson said. “I have only lost one match in singles so far this season. The win and loss total is great.”
They are scheduled for matches April 4-5 at the Seminole State Festival in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
“It’s my first time here so I don’t know these teams,” said newcomer Juliana Boas. “I’m just trying to move up.”
