The Seward County Community College Students In Free Enterprise team has won the regional competition in Seattle.
Thirteen students from SCCC attended the competition, Amber Bond, Joe Walter, Quinton Bartel, Yessenia Pacheco, Jazmin Hernandez, Alexander Almanza, Collin Fisher, Vicky Galan, Savannah Salley, Heather Zerr, Olian Thompson, Clarissa Arteaga, and Monica Vega.
The students were accompanied by Kim Thomas.
They departed for Seattle on March 31 and are scheduled to return to SCCC today.
In their competition, SIFE had various projects that in some way taught business or free enterprise.
Their projects this year have involved the community and corporate reports. The presentations are done by Power Point.
The team got the chance to compete against a team that was second in the SIFE world competition last year.
Most of the teams that SCCC were competing against were from four-year institutions.
During Seward County’s presentation, they had a technical problem that caused their presentation not to open. They managed to stay calm and complete their presentation without their visual aid.
The judges were impressed with how calm the team stayed and the way they handled adversity.
The team will now go to compete in the national competition in Chicago May 12-13. They will only take six presenters and a clicker.
Students in Free Enterprise may hold a fundraiser to collect money to help pay for the expenses to travel to Chicago.
SIFE has only a few weeks to prepare themselves for national competition. If the SIFE team members win at nationals they will get to compete in the world competition.
