Seward County Community College admissions coordinator and Liberal resident Justin A. Morales, son of Elva A. Morales and Fransico Morales, was recognized as an Unsung Hero on April 4. This award was given to him by the Southwest Daily Times for his enthusiasm, generosity and kindness in the community.
Morales was nominated by Panorelon Sayarath, Ana Alonso, Claudia Charria and others. Morales graduated from Turpin High School in ’98. He then attended University of Oklahoma. In 2001, he served in the United States Air Force for four years, in which, he had to start getting ready for war due to the Sept. 11 tragedy. In the summer of 2007, he moved back to Liberal.
“I wanted to come back because of the community; everyone is very helpful and nice,” Morales said.
A single father of his 3-year-old son, Azure, Morales also instructs citizenship classes at the Colvin Adult Learning Center, where he helps people get ready for their citizenship tests. He is a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters, SCCC admissions bilingual coordinator, tutors in the elementary school and is a War Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Morales will be graduating from SCCC and from Friends University in October. He will then begin to work on a master’s degree. “I’m just here to help the community, I have viewed life differently since I’m a single father,” Morales said.
