Seward County Men's Basketball third at Nationals

The Saints finished the season and the NJCAA Tournament as the No. 3 team in the Nation.
The Saints beat Three Rivers Community College in the final round of the tournament 81-63. Seward County was in control of the entire fourth round game.
Both sophomore Darko Cohadarevic and freshman Reggie Chamberlain had 19 points for the Saints. Sophomore Nick Burns led the Saints with 20 points.
Cohadarevic had eight rebounds for the Saints, Burns had five assists, and Chamberlain went 4-of-6 from the three-point range.
The win helped the Saints to tie Seward County’s single-season win record with 32 victories and only six loses.
The Saints took control of the game early with a 14-point lead. The Saints were up 20-6 with just under 12 minutes left in the first half of the game.
Seward County shot 7-of-8 threes in the first half and shot 54 percent from the floor.
The Saints led by more than 10 points for a majority of the game.
With just minutes left in the first half Chamberlain, Cohadarevic, and Burns scored to take the Saints lead to 40-23.
The Saints slowed Three Rivers shooting and held them to just 33 percent from the field in the first half.
Seward County began the first half with a 7-2 run.
Cohadarevic went on a run for the Saints scoring eight points in a row. Burns added another three to give Seward County its largest lead of the game, 73-49.
The Saints went on one more run during the final minutes of the game. Chamberlain made his fourth three-pointer of the game. Cohadarevic ended his Saints career with a three while Burns ended his with a jump shot giving Seward County the lead of 81-59.
“I was happy that it was over, then not because there would be no more basketball at SCCC,” Burns said.
Seward shot 50 percent for three-pointers during the game. They shot 82 percent from the free throw line.
The Saints were able to force 15 turnovers from Three Rivers.
Both Cohadarevic and Chamberlain were named to the NJCAA All-Tournament team following the game.
“That was amazing,” Cohadarevic said. “But one thing is clear, I get all of this because I had great teammates and because I was part of a great team.”
Cohadarevic was also a Region VI Tournament M.V.P.
The Saints finished their season winning 19 of their last 21 games. They led Region VI in wins this season.
Three of Seward County’s all-time team records were broken this season, including 3-point field goals made with 325, free throw shooting percentage with 73 percent, and three-point shooting percentage with 39 percent.
The Saints tied the SCCC record of most wins in a season with 32.
Chamberlain’s free throw shooting percentage this season, 83 percent, is the best of in freshman in Seward County history and puts him third for all-time in a single season.
Chamberlain also had 171 assists this season which was the second most for a freshman at SCCC. He was also second in steals, with 95, and three-pointers, with 83, by a freshman at Seward County.
Burns finished his SCCC career with the third most career assists for SCCC with 270. He was also seventh in career three-pointers with 105 and seventh in career steals with 116.
Dixon finishes his career at Seward County ranked fourth in single-season three point shooting percentage with a percentage of 45.
Sophomore Ervin Williams also got into the Seward County record books finishing second in career blocked shots with 96, fifth in career field goal shooting percentage with 56 percent, and ninth in career rebounds with 362.
Freshman Bryson Hampton had 68 career blocked shots this season for Seward County ranking him sixth in Saints’ history.
Cohadarevic worked hard to get into the Seward County record books in many different ways.
He ended his career at Seward County ranked sixth in career rebounds, ninth in career three-pointers with 90, ninth in career blocked shots with 60, and 10th in career field goals made with 321.
“Everybody was happy. We worked hard,” Chamberlain said. “We wanted first but third is good. A lot of people didn’t think we’d make it out of conference.”
The Saints are planning for next year. There are six freshman on the team this season. The team plans to return to the NJCAA Tournament.
They are currently awaiting the announcement of the NJCAA?All-American awards.
