The cast of SCCC’s fall production of “I Hate Hamlet” has been practicing every Tuesday and Thursday for the past month in preparation for Nov. 19-20 show dates.

“I Hate Hamlet” tells the story of a successful television actor who moves to New York City and rents an apartment that once belonged to actor John Barrymore. As his television career starts to wain, he is offered the role of Hamlet onstage, but hesitates because of his hatred of “Hamlet”. His trouble thickens as the intoxicated ghost of John Barrymore shows up to reclaim the apartment.

“Practice is going great,” Director Frank Challis said. “Everyone is well suited and enthusiastic about their parts.”

Challis was also very excited about the set.

“We’re getting a backdrop from Kansas City that depicts the Barrymore mansion in all of its eccentricity,” Challis said.

Cast members include Howard Dewitt as John Barrymore, Sr., Randy Cook as Andrew Rally, Gary Collins as Gary Lefowitz, Dayanara Ruano as Deirdre McDavy, Valerie Rohloff as Felicia Dantine, and Miranda Headrick as Lillian Troy.

Since much of the play revolves around “Hamlet”, the costumes will be a mixture between modern day and Renaissance pieces.

“I Hate Hamlet” will be performed Nov. 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Showcase Theater in the Shank Humanities Building. Tickets will be sold at the door. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and free for all full-time SCCC students with ID.
