Coach nets volleyball job in Barbados for Goodwill Series Carribean Games

Over the summer, Seward’s head volleyball coach Bert Luallen went to Barbados to coach a team from schools across the United States.

The nine players had never  practiced together. Coach Luallen asked the players their postions, then started playing and made adjustments as they went.

The trip was part of the Bajan Goodwill series, where U.S.A. teams travel to Barbados to participate against teams from the islands.

They played the Barbados national team while participating in the Carribean Games. Luallen was invited by the USA  Athletics International.

Lady Saints sweep Garden, remain undefeated in Jayhawk

The Lady Saints traveled to Garden City for a Jayhawk West matchup Wednesday night. The Lady Saints swept the Broncbusters in three sets to remain undefeated in the conference.

The Lady Saints depth proved to be a vital asset in the match. Seward’s constant substitutions to keep fresh legs on the court was something Garden, simply couldn’t do.

The Lady Broncbusters are now left with just enough players to fill their have of the court, with only six players currently on their roster.

Lady Saints head coach Bert Luallen believed their depth to be a great tool.

“Our strength is being balanced and having depth with our subs and bench and those on the court,” Luallen said.

Fernandes, Sanders receive player of the week honors

Two Lady Saints have been the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Player of the Week in the first four weeks of the season. Sheinae Fernandes a freshman middle-hitter from Porto Alegre, Brazil has received Player of the Week honors in week one and week four this season.

LaKendra Sanders a sophomore middle-hitter from Lewisville, Texas received Player of the Week honors in week two.

Both have made a big impact for the Lady Saints at the net and will look to continue making some noise and continue producing throughout the season.

 

Volleyball tops Pratt, runs into stiff competition at tourney

The once nationally ranked No. 11 Seward County Community College Lady Saints volleyball remain undefeated in the conference defeating Pratt and Colby but suffered three losses at Sterling Colo.

The Lady Saints now set their sights on also undefeated in conference play Barton County.

The now ranked No. 13Saints then ran into a brick wall when they went to the 2009 Pizza Hut Invitational in Sterling Colorado and returned 1-3 from the tourney.

Eleventh is the highest ranking the Lady Saints have held under head coach Bert Luallen and the highest ranking the program has seen since 2003.
