Lady Saint bounces back from crash

During Christmas break, Lady Saints basektball players Ashlynn Knoll and Kayla Thomas were in a car wreck while on vacation. Neither were seriously injured, but it kept Knoll from playing basketball at the start of the semester.

The two were going down a hill near Wheeler, Texas, on their way to an anniversary when a truck failed to stop at a stop sign. Knoll was driving. She hit her brakes and the car slid sideways into the semi. The two walked away with minor cuts and bruises.

Missing a few games after the wreck certainly did not keep Knoll from playing at her best when she returned, and she received her third KJCCC Player of the Week award for Jan. 9-15.

Knoll was humbled to receive the award again this season, and said, “It’s...

The bigger they are...

Tom Brady is the best quarterback in the league, so it stands to reason he will be the best quarterback on the field Super Bowl XLVI.

Brady has a great arsenal around him, from Wes Welker, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez Deion Branch and Chad Ochocinco.  BenJarvus Green-Ellis even got it done on the ground against the Baltimore Ravens last week. The offensive line is also pretty stacked.

The defense really does not have one stand-out player, but as a group the Patriots are very effective against the opposing offense which will prove critical in order to stop the New York Giants.

The Giants front four on defense will give Brady and company trouble, but I do not think Justin Tuck,     Linval Joseph, Chris Canty and     Jason...

Two games, two wins for Saints

The Seward County Community College Men’s basketball team rolled Friday and Saturday to have a perfect record of 6-0.

SCCC played the Redlands Cougars on Friday night and stormed right out of the gates grabbing an early lead and never looking back. The final score was 112-63. Seward shot 60% percent for the game and shared the ball well for 22 assists. The Cougars couldn’t do anything right in the first half being blown out 64-22, while shooting 23%. The Cougars couldn’t move the ball around leading to horrible shots and only six assists in the game. Stifling defense is the main reason why Seward is in the position they are in right now causing 55 turnovers in their last two games.

Men’s basketball starts with strong wins

The Seward County Community College Men’s Basketball team came out guns blazing Friday and Saturday night to start off the season 2-0.

On Friday night, SCCC beat  Sterling College JV 119-35 while showing off their defensive capabilities, holding Sterling to only 35 points while shooting an atrocious 28 percent from the field.

SCCC didn’t have any struggles, however, as the team shot 54 percent from the field, while scoring 119 points.

Daveon Boardingham led the way for the Saints with 23 points and nine boards. The Saints seemed unstoppable on both sides of the ball, with the full court press contributing to 43 Sterling turnovers. SCCC had the rebound advantages of 54-19.

Dunk of the web

A viral video on Youtube is making people talk about an in-game dunk that is making Trey Starks a very popular guy on campus. In the video, Starks is shown dunking over a 6-6 defender while catching an alley-hoop from a teammate.

Starks is listed at 6 feet on the roster. Starks went to Indian Hills Community College before he found out about Seward from a former coach and decided to transfer to SCCC.

“It was a play designed for me, and I didn’t realize that I jumped over the defender ’til after the game,” Starks said.

The dunk was also in his high school championship game.

Starks likes to jump over other people while in practice or just messing around.

Starks also has another video on Youtube of him when he takes the ball...
