Miss Liberal crowned

At the Miss Liberal Scholarship Pagent on Feb. 9 Gretchen Bourell, a student at Washburn University in Topeka, was crowned. Bourell is an alumni of Seward County Community College. Bourell also competed in the 2000 Miss Liberal Pagent, where she was crowned second runner-up, along with winning both physical fitnesss and evening wear competitions. In 2002 Bourell again walked away with the evening gown award.
Third runner-up was Anathea Leigh Kelly a student at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Second runner-up was Stephanie Rinehart a senior at Liberal High School and concurrent student at SCCC. First runner-up was Rachel Tibbetts a junior at Kansas State University. Tibbetts also recieved awards for the interview and physical fitness competitions. Bourell took the Miss Liberal title.
Four concurrent SCCC students competed in the pagent. Rhinehart, Tiffani Holterman, Paige Tibbetts and Katy Scott. Full time students at SCCC, Jessica Baca and Christina Miller also vied for the Miss Liberal title.
Baca is majoring in nursing. Her platform was “Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.” She performed “There You Are” as a vocal solo for her talent.
Miller is majoring in psychology. Her platform was on “Depression.” She performed a dance routine to “All or Nothing” from the movie “Save the Last Dance.” Both Baca and Miller recieved $400 scholarships from SCCC, along with $300 for participating.
The Miss Liberal Pageant is one of the largest scholarship programs in the state of Kansas.
Bourell will compete in the Miss Kansas Pageant in Pratt, June 6,7 and 8.
